Introduction to a Future Wish Granter

Hi everyone! I'm Nathan, and I hail from Clinton, OK. I'm a senior public relations major and nonprofit organizational studies minor, and I'm so close to graduation. I have loved my experience at the University of Oklahoma for the past three years, and I'm ready to finish it up! My favorite part of public relations is getting to meet and build relationships and connections with so many different people. My favorite class last semester was Beginning Voice; I've been singing in choir all my life, including doing multiple honor choirs during junior high and high school, and that was my first opportunity to sing since coming to college. Once I graduate, I'm hoping to work with a nonprofit like Make-A-Wish. I was born with dilated cardiomyopathy, a rare heart condition that affects its ability to pump blood. I was given a trip through Make-A-Wish when I was younger, and I interned for them in the summer of 2019.

I'm a big fan of reality television - Big Brother, Survivor, Amazing Race, etc.,- if it's a reality competition show, I've probably seen almost all of it. I also love the murder mystery movie Knives Out starring Daniel Craig, and it's one of my favorite movies of all time (it recently released on Amazon Prime- you should seriously watch it). I love listening to music in my free time, especially Charlie Puth.

Music Video for one of my favorite songs, "Done For Me"

I have three older brothers, amazing parents, and two of the cutest dogs ever, Copper and Stella. I'm obsessed with Disney: almost every family vacation is Disney-related. I've been to Disneyland, Disney World, and been on Disney Cruises and each visit is better than the last. I'm also hoping to be able to incorporate Disney into my career with Make-A-Wish. My favorite food is pizza, but I will eat just about anything. I also make some amazing mashed potatoes every Thanksgiving. I enjoy watching TV, playing video games, and playing with my dogs. They are the most loving dogs you'll ever meet.

Stella and Copper, two rascals that some call "dogs"

That's all from me for now, but I should be back soon and all throughout the semester!

  2. Those are some impressive accomplishments! I've been to Disney World a couple of times and it is magical every time. I love pets of all kinds, especially dogs, your pups are adorable. My sister also has a dog named Stella but yours is a bit smaller. I also make some decent mashed potatoes. Some of my favorite things to do are play video games and snuggle my pups. I am sure we would have some excellent conversations

  3. I am also a public relations major! I also love the fact that PR helps me to get connections with people and know people on a different level. Thats super cool you want to work with a non-profit organization and give back to them. I have also seen the movie knives out and I love it too, such a good movie. I am also a big Disney fan! I am fro California and live pretty close to Disneyland so thats amazing.

  4. How's it going Nathan!

It is scary how much we have in common from reading your intro. I watch Big Brother and Amazing Race religiously every year, we are also in the lovely Gaylord College as I am a Journalism major. I love how your condition is not slowing you down from following your dreams and leading you to help others, that is a true testament to your character. I hope you have a great rest of your semester!

    Best,
    Payton

    2. I hardly meet anyone else who watches Big Brother religiously like I do haha. That's honestly cool that we're in Gaylord. If you ever run into me in Gaylord (or even wanted to get together for food or a Big Brother watch party) you should hit me up sometime; I always love meeting other Gaylord people!

  5. Hi Nathan! I too am a senior and can't wait to see where this next year takes us! I think Make a Wish is an amazing organization and I think that is awesome that you are wanting to work with them after college. I too am a big dog person and have three back home with my parents and one here with me in Norman! Sadly I have never made it to Disney World of Disney Land but it is definitely something on my bucketlist that I can't wait to visit one of these days!

  6. What's up Nathan!
I am/ was and avid reality tv show watcher (school makes it hard for me now). It was always a way my family came together at the end of the day. I also went on a cruise with my work and had to get internet on it as I was also in school and my coworker and I would sneak away and watch/ catch up in Survivor! I also knew I would have to comment because I am in love with Knives Out. I was glued to my seat watching it in theaters and then watched it again as soon as it hit Amazon Prime Video!

  7. I hope you will get to pursue your Make-A-Wish plan, Nathan: that sounds wonderful! While my dad was on hospice, he enjoyed a live musical performance through a program called Swan Song down in Austin; it's kind of make-a-musical-wish, absolutely great: Swan Song - link (he had a Benny Goodman quartet playing right in his living room!)
And about Knives Out, I have to share this adorable Twitter thread: the cast as goats. Seriously! So cute: Knives Out... with goats - link
And your Stella and Cooper look like a pair of characters who could get into all kinds of fun story-trouble, so maybe they will make an appearance in a story post this semester too. :-)

  8. Hi Nathan!

I don't know anyone at OU that is a public relations major, so thank you for giving some insight into what your major looks like. I think that's awesome you want to be involved with non-profits. I also enjoy some reality television, especially survivor although I haven't watched it in a while. Good luck this semester and in the future!

  9. Hey Nathan!

I have to say that I am right there with you with the competitive reality TV obsession. I don't know why I always get so hooked, but I am a sucker for some good somewhat-scripted drama.

I hope that your last year as a Sooner is the best yet! Fingers crossed for an in person graduation. :)

  10. Hi Nathan,
First off Amazing Race is an amazing show! I have watched it from the beginning and love to see the places and activities they are involved in. I hope this semester lets you get creative with some of you passion for Disney, maybe you can incorporate that into some of your stories. I look forward to reading some of your work.

  11. Hi Nathan!
Nice to see yet another Gaylord major here! (I'm a PW Major)
I think it's really cool you want to work with Make-A-Wish, I've done a couple of events they ran, they do such great things!
And I will agree, those are definitely some cute dogs!

  12. Hi Nathan, I wish I could get into reality shows but I get such secondhand embarrassment from them that I just absolutely can't. I hope one day I can get over that embarrassment, but for now I have to live vicariously through everyone else! That said, I know you said you're a Disney fanatic so of course you probably have nothing but good reviews, but how were the Disney cruises? I've only ever been on one cruise, but I wouldn't mind going on one of those in the future! Anyway, I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the semester!

  13. Hi Nathan! Thanks for introducing yourself. First of all, I think it's awesome that you want to work for Make-A-Wish. I know a girl who got a trip from that organization, and it really meant a lot to her and her family. The only reality TV I'm into is the Bachelor/Bachelorette, which I'm not super proud of, but I get the appeal of competition shows. I'd like to visit the Disney theme parts someday, but I've never had the chance to. They seem super magical! Congrats on graduating in 3 - that's a big accomplishment, and good luck with the rest of this class!

  14. Hey, Nathan! How awesome that you’re so close to graduating and ready to give back through non-profit organizations. It’s definitely uplifting and exciting. I have not seen Knives Out yet, but I actually wanted to watch it when it came out! I love a good murder mystery, so I’ll have to check it out on Prime now. I hope your last year is the best and good luck for the rest of this semester!

  15. Hi Nathan,

Congrats on getting so close to the end of school! I am also a soon to be graduate, and I am counting down the days! I love that you took a personal experience in your life and realized that you want to make good happen for others as well. I also did choir when I was in middle and high school, so I know what it is like to miss that atmosphere! I hope the rest of the semester goes well for you!

  16. Hi Nathan!
So crazy how many times we've crossed paths in Gaylord and we've never realized how much we have in common! I too am a big Disney fan and wish I could visit the Disney parks more often. My favorite family vacation was actually a Disney cruise! We definitely need to chat more in our event planning class this semester! I enjoyed getting to read your intro!

  17. Hi Nathan :)
I think that's really neat you're a PR major! I'm in Gaylord, too, but under Professional Writing. I grew up in Florida fairly close to Disney World, and I'm still obsessed with Disney! I was lucky my family could afford to take a lot of day trips to the parks! I don't listen to much Charlie Puth, but I do like a few of his songs. I hope you get to incorporate Disney into your future and that you have a great rest of the semester :)

  18. Hi Nathan! I am definitely jealous of your Disney adventures! I have always wanted to go to either Disney World or Disney Land- I really do not care which one too much! I'm a huge fan of rollercoasters, and I really want to visit Harry Potter World. Congratulations on graduating soon! Hope this semester was great!
